His Excellency the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority for the Care of People with Disability, Eng. Ahmed bin Sulaiman Alrajhi, honored three outstanding individuals with Down syndrome, representing their peers across all regions of the Kingdom, on the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day, which falls on Thursday, March 21.
During the meeting, His Excellency commended the wise leadership's support for and interest in caring for and empowering people with disability, ensuring their rights, and strengthening partnership with community institutions to deliver pioneering initiatives and projects for them. He praised the achievements of people with Down syndrome and their aspirations to serve their community, and thanked their families for their efforts and support, describing them as the secret behind their success and excellence.
The three honorees who met with Minister Alrajhi are: Mamdouh Al-Anzi, who has worked at the Prince Sultan Center for Assistive Services for Special Education for nine years and excels in customer service skills; Shaima Al-Mufdi, who works at the Saut Down Syndrome Association as its spokesperson and represented the Kingdom at the Eleventh Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, held in New York; and Abdulaziz Al-Oyouni, who works at McDonald's and has achieved numerous sports championships at the Kingdom level in swimming, karate, judo, and boxing — holding five karate belts and four judo belts, and a Saudi champion in swimming and weightlifting.
The Authority for the Care of People with Disability affirmed that its celebration of this global occasion stems from the Kingdom's commitment to caring for people with Down syndrome and all categories of people with disability, raising community awareness of their rights, providing all forms of empowerment, securing all health and social care needs, and integrating them into society as productive, active members.
